The “As A Jewish Man” documentary explores diverse experiences at the intersection of religion, gender norms, family pressures and historical trauma through the stories of nine young men. It unpacks the unique challenges and opportunities of being a Jewish man today. The film premiered in 2019 at the University of Maryland Hillel and Towson University Hillel for student audiences and was shown at the Foundation for Jewish Camp 2020 Leaders Assembly.
“As A Jewish Man” is comprised of a short introduction and a series of 3- to 5- minute mini-documentaries on masculinity, Jewish stereotypes and reactions, pressures and expectations, the “nice” Jewish boy, gender in Judaism, the #MeToo movement, and looking forward to the future.
The film is accompanied by a discussion guide to help spark dialogue and reflection, which includes questions and conversation prompts for each mini documentary.
