At the Table: Men as Allies in Workplace Equity seeks to equip male Jewish professionals, donors, and lay leaders with the confidence, tools, and information to be allies for gender equity.
“At the Table: Men as Allies in Workplace Equity” seeks to equip male Jewish professionals, donors, and lay leaders with the confidence, tools and information to be allies for gender equity. The program aims to cultivate a workplace culture of safety, respect, and true equity in the day-to-day operations and interactions, goals and core values of Jewish organizations. JWI piloted the program in 2019 - 2020 at The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and the Bender JCC and it is now launching nationally.
The #MeToo movement encouraged organizations and agencies to take an honest and open look at work-place culture and where, when and how issues around gender equity can be addressed and improved. Jewish agency staff and lay leaders play a central role in creating and supporting the culture that we want to see in our organizations.
“At the Table” is uniquely focused on working with Jewish men—staff and lay-leaders—to support them in becoming active allies, advocates and stronger partners in promoting gender equity in Jewish workplaces.
The program includes guided conversations with a trained facilitator focusing on:
Establishing understanding of what it means to be an ally;
Identifying and shifting attitudes, behaviors and beliefs that can, often inadvertently, create non-equitable organizational cultures;
Developing skills for interventions that can correct patterns of behavior leading to disparities;
Using positions of leadership to influence and support change;
Increasing self-awareness of enculturated assumptions about gender;
Combating formal and informal gendered forms of discrimination, micro-aggression, harassment and misconduct.
Participants advance the goal of ensuring positive, equitable workplaces that build and nurture the talents and abilities of all staff, lay-leaders and volunteers in Jewish organizations.
